I'm no stranger to the supernatural and the strange, but to be whisked away to a dystopian hellscape, left to fend for ourselves with little but a dingy garage and a ruined gas station to sift through...
[And the 'Husks' in the trees, though, obviously they were a much riskier gamble.]
It gives the impression that we've been transplanted into a dystopian novel, or perhaps a survival horror video game.

Though, frankly, I'd rather approach it like a mystery to solve, and all of this as a curious clue.
