[That confession is a heartbreaking one. Viktor... didn't want to ever hurt Jayce this badly. He loved- no, loves- the man with his whole being. A blade that cuts both ways. It could bring such joy and such haunting sorrow. When the duties of the council put distance between them, Viktor couldn't bare to pull Jayce back, to make the man witness his deterioration moment by moment. Better he be distracted, fulfilling other work. Viktor did not want to be his priority, it would destroy Jayce too much to try and fail to save him. Better for Viktor to save himself or fail himself.
