[Because it was exactly gaudy enough to have been used for entertainment purposes. Apollo simply can't imagine that it had ever been in a real battle, despite how battered it looked. Anyone who seriously tried to bring that thing to a battlefield would be laughed right out of the fight, he was pretty sure.
