It almost reminds me of some concepts within human religion. In Christianity, for instance, there exists the concept of heaven, full of angels and a great creator who oversee humanity and judge them for their sins.

Though, that wouldn't be the only example. The Greeks had Mt. Olympus, home of the gods, as well as the Underworld, divided into the Elysian Fields, Tartarus, and the Asphodel Meadows, depending on the moral character of the deceased.
