Re: II. Machine Envy

"I'm talking about personal conversations." There is a pause. "...I suppose you've got a point about people mentioning cities."

Sometimes a casual conversation just might not bring up names of places that people already expect to be around or know.

Still, Vincent shakes his head as Nian suspects. "I'm... not really from anywhere important. But never heard of those terms being used to describe any place I'm familiar with." Now that the conversation is important, the man seems to be getting into longer statements. "If you haven't heard of the Shinra Company, Midgar, or mako then I doubt we're from the same place."

But the subject turns to monsters. And with the question, Vincent's attention is drawn momentarily to the casual flick of Nian's tail and the horns. These could be signs of the transformations they can expect; Vincent may be considered fortunate in that regard thus far. But he may be wondering if there's a deeper meaning.

The question itself hits a little closer to home than he likes anyway. There's a slight heave of his shoulders as the gunman lets out a brief, if humorless chuckle.

"First, people don't have conversations with them." Is that an assurance? Vincent continues with a more serious mien.

"Monsters... are creatures that attack without rhyme or reason. They could be mutations that were once normal beasts. Or twisted by science. It's not to say they don't have feelings. Or suffer. But their instincts drive them to destroy."

...Nian could probably be mistaken for a monster. But in fairness to the people of his world, if you hesitated when confronted with one, you'd most likely end up very dead. It's a lesson humans have learned the hard way.
