SecUnit/Murderbot | The Murderbot Diaries | Swarm

Character: Murderbot! SecUnit to everyone here.
Monster: Swarm, specifically Thri-kreen. Warning for insect features, feel free to use the opt out if those might get to you.
Current Traits:

- Super jump, capable of leaping twice or even thrice as far as any human, capable of bursts of swift, scuttling speed and enhanced agility.
- Ability to produce chirps, buzzing, etc. This comes in the form of a slightly unpleasant buzzing echo to its voice.
- Mandibles growing from or framing the mouth. (as of current moon warp)
- Chitinous armor, capable of blocking blades and absorbing moderate blows. Comes with grey mottled discoloration. (as of current moon warp)

Upcoming Traits:

- Sharp mantis claws or stinger.
- Tremor-Sense: Receive information based on footsteps or similar vibrations through the ground; typically can register the presence of a person or object, and generally pick out physical features such as gait, weight, etc.
- Wall climb, can scale all but the most slippery of surfaces as though walking on flat ground.

Potential/currently undecided:
- Extra eyes, may be normal or compound.
- Limited Telepathy: can communicate with other members of the hive (ie close friends and the like) through thoughts. These thoughts tend to be limited to emotions like empathy, or simple sentences or single words.

RP Plans/Desired CR: Currently SecUnit's physical changes are making it uncomfortably buglike. Between its usual SecUnit physical differences like the inbuilt weapons, the changes to its voice, and now the more physical changes like the mandibles, it's meant to generate some subconscious (or conscious) discomfort in others. It'll try and get a mask to cover the changes, but I'm happy to have characters being slightly unnerved by it, whether they're friends or strangers. It will oscillate between using those features to try and make people leave it alone, and trying to hide them so it doesn't scare people off too badly for it to do its job (protecting everyone!).

A lot of its personality means that it tends to make a negative first impression, and it is very defensive once it feels that it's been wronged, but even in negative situations it's willing to put its own life on the line to make sure people in the Convoy don't die, so stuck fighting together is usually a good option for salvaging a bad first meeting! Also if others end up physically fighting over something, it can step in and tell them in no uncertain terms to knock that shit off. On the other hand, treating it as competent, autonomous, and respecting its boundaries (aka don't look at it) are surefire ways to get it on your character's side forever.

It'll eventually get a collectivist hive mind, but that's one of the very last changes I'm considering, so for now the only psychological effects it's dealing with are the ones it brought from home. As for the telepathy: I'm still not sure about this but SecUnit has such a lively internal monologue that I think it'd be fun to let people get a peek past its usual awkward/terse exterior.

Other: Anything else!
