Hi everyone! By request, we are posting the monster CR meme! One of our players noted we’ve got a lot of monsters with pack or similar instincts and mental changes, and it seems like a good time to start working on those. And if you would like to plan for other changes, that is just fine as well.

This meme is for RP planning centered around monster changes, be they physical, mental, or behavioral! Feel free to comment, plot, and plan all sorts of monster shenanigans!

Paladin Danse | Fallout 4 | Werewolf

Character: Paladin Danse
Monster: Werewolf
Current Traits:

☽ Razor-sharp fangs, which have grown in fully by the end of the month. He's still learning to talk around them so he doesn't sound like Sean Connery, which will probably take him a couple more weeks or so.
☽ Voracious Appetite chimera trait just for this month, but once he has his hybrid form, it will become a permanent werewolf trait for him.

Upcoming Traits:

☽ Fur coat, black, growing in as an extension of his existing body hair. This is just a gradual thing that he thinks he can keep on top of, so feel free to run into him sulking in the bathroom or something while he shaves his beard for the third time that day.
☽ Wolf tail and ears, also black-furred
☽ Pack link, able to convey brief thoughts/feelings/sensations to those seen as pack. By default this is going to include everyone else from his own world, but I love the idea of him unconsciously adopting others that he develops close CR with or feels he has a lot in common with.
☽ Additional wolf-human hybrid form, doubled in height and mass. I envision something similar to a worgen, but with a tail.
☽ Voracious appetite after transformations.

RP Plans/Desired CR:

Danse is a character who naturally lends himself to initial negative CR, because he's brusque and stern and still brainwashed by an authoritarian military cult, but beyond that surface level he's deeply lonely and eager to make friends. If given a chance, it will not take him that long to soften up. He's basically a suit of armor filled with marshmallow goo.

I'd considered giving him the "pack mentality" trait that would have him sorting other people into hierarchical roles and interacting with them accordingly, and then realized I didn't need to waste a trait slot on that because he already does enough of it on his own. So if other people have that going on as part of their transformations, and would like to mess around with that and figure out where he falls on their idea of the pecking order, I'm down for it! He's a big tough guy who's very accustomed to being in charge, but he doesn't mind being bossed around by people he's come to trust, so it can really go either way depending on how he gets along with someone otherwise.

Since the bulk of his character arc is about coming to terms with not being human, I would love to keep collecting other android/robot/synth/etc types and having him talk to them about it. For him, the trauma of "oh god I'm becoming an animal" is almost secondary to the trauma of "oh god I've been a machine all along," and I'm very eager to play with the contrast between the two ways in which he's losing the semblance of humanity he wants to hold onto. I feel like with the right influence, he might even be willing to embrace some of the werewolf changes, because they're as far from machine-like as it gets--but I have no idea, and it's possible as well that he might go the other direction with it and come to see the good in being a synth instead. He's a fairly impressionable person and I think it's going to depend a lot on who he gets close to.

I don't know exactly where I'm going with this now, but--come hang out with a sad robot wolf, anyway. He needs a hug.

I do not have a robot I can offer but I do have a genetically engineered weapon who lives and breathes military hierarchy and may find Danse's brusqueness comfortably familiar.

That sounds like exactly the kind of thing Danse will find both reassuringly familiar (in the "hello fellow person who doesn't know what to do with himself outside the military" sense) and absolutely horrifying (in the "we should probably both not exist" sense), so I am absolutely down to throw them together and see how it goes!

They can commiserate over diet changes, too, because Danse is going through similar ones and having a rough time of it, and he might be one of the people willing to urge Sephiroth to be more practical about it.

Synths deserve a chance! They're not horrible genetic abominations, they're just AI! :( Live danse live!! .... Danse will be one of the only self-aware artificial lifeforms he's ever encountered. i wonder what kind of impression he'll make

Next opportunity that arises, we should do the thing. I intend to have the diet changes already in place, he's just under the mistaken impressio it's going to go away like the naga changes did in the last event.

Hi I still definitely need to throw my two at him :D Jack brushes off rudeness so long as nobody actually tells him to leave, and Jolie still has that "my best friend is an AI" thing going on.

Yes! I keep meaning to tag into Jolie's toplevel in particular for the Fight Lesson; I got player permission for Danse to borrow a friend's gun for teaching purposes, and he can teach some other methods that won't need a gun, too. I don't imagine it taking too long for the AI stuff to come up in conversation, knowing him, so it'll be fun!

And please, he is so adrift and confused in his werewolfiness right now. Help him, Jack.

would danse perhaps like another military friend who is both extremely friendly (immune to negative stern authority figure vibes) and also already experienced at pep-talking people who are becoming monsters

(he has not succeeded at actually helping any of them yet but hey .....ffffourth time's the charm maybe??)

I'm completely canonblind to all things Final Fantasy, but sure, why not? Friendliness is his kryptonite.

he will almost certainly find danse very reminiscent of the beloved mentor he lost(/was forced to kill, it's complicated), so he's definitely easy mode for bypassing initial negativity, too.

Well, if there's one thing Danse understands, it's being complicatedly forced to kill people he cares about (but not his beloved mentor bc that dude was killed by the Enclave.)

And he does have a habit of wanting to adopt former child soldier types, because he's got tons of experience with those, so I'd be down to see where that could go.

I could see some very interesting cr arising from a talk between them. I don’t know what would end up happening but, having a brisk and stern tone isn’t going to bother a hunter. Sometimes he is the same way.
