Levi knows these noises, so when he starts 'hearing' them in the hospital he goes to track down the source. It takes a bit, since brain noises aren't as easy to pin point as real noises are, but eventually he gets it.

The dog eared, dog nosed and moth winged boy has his rifle in his hands when he comes across Edward. He's almost surprised the other isn't in military fatigues.
