Fusion Meme!
As requested, a monster fusion meme to help people plot and plan for the new feature arriving on the 8th!
What is fusion?
Fusion is a new mechanic getting introduced to the game. The assorted problems and magic concentrations at the next location (an old Steel Warden fortress) will have an affect on Drifters. Namely, they will be able to fuse their monster forms together.
This will typically happen when encountering threats and dangers, and is similar to a moon warp with forcing changes... It's just that this time around, characters can fuse each other's monster forms together.
Can you give us a little sneak peek of the event?
Sure! As currently written, here's some highlights:
An element saturation isn’t the only strange thing in the fortress. Anyone who makes contact with the fortress stones will find themselves building a resonance with a fellow Drifter. This grows stronger the more time they spend in the fortress.
Until finally the bond solidifies on the next change the Drifters go through and hits a fever pitch. The next threat they encounter WILL force a transformation. When that happens, their next change fuses their two monster forms together into something new.
Their fusion form is a combination of two Drifter’s traits. It is also twice the size it would normally be, and is well suited to taking on any giant sized monsters. It can even give Drifters a brief insight into the memories of their partner, as the fusion takes place.
When this happens, both Drifters can switch control over their merged form. Those with greater synchronism will have more control, while those who squabble and fight will find that their monster form becomes more feral and savage. This fusion lasts until the threat abates: when that happens, the fusion breaks apart, and Drifters return to their prior state.
Is this basically the Ouroboros Form from Xenoblade 3?

Monster Form: Vox is in the yokai family, specifically a kitsune. He's a blend of flesh and tech, with big holographic tails of blue behind him when fully shifted into a feral form.
Traits: He can basically thunderwave (a big sound for knockback, I tend to let it be music-based or a thunderous shriek), weather control with howling or singing, electrokinesis, and has SUUUUCH a hunger for liver. Enjoy that! He can also use hypnosis or brainwashing, which has its own big ol' permissions page, but if it's being used against bigger threats then it should be gucci.
Fusion Ideas: Fusing with Vox will bring tech into the mix, be it cybernetic limbs, holographic details and a whole lot of electricity. As for memories...? Hoo BOY...
So he just updated, and in season 2 he was the main antagonist. He went off the deep end, soundly lost, and is not taking things very well. There's a strong chance of feral monster activity upon a fusion. If disaster is your flavor, then here you go!

Anyway, again, Vox is basically having a crash-out this month. He'll go out hunting more and just take out his frustrations on nature. Comfort threads would be kinda nice? He doesn't know anybody all that well, so there's no real expectation, but I'm always open for all sorts of CR. Catch him out hunting, dragging himself back looking worse for the wear, maybe sitting down in the convoy to a meal or a drink... the world, she is your oyster~

I also think John would be able to snap out of swirly-eye hypnosis, since he's a powerful nonhuman with his own mind control ability. John could catch Vox during a pathetic crash-out moment, Vox could round on him, they could do a mind control slapfight and lick their wounds together? If Vox is the one to finally introduce him to visual media, John will be his buddy for life.

Haha, funny enough, in another game I had him in, he'd tried his hypnotism on someone with the power and it was like slamming foreheads together. It was hilarious. I can see this happening! It's the perfect 'in,' and Vox could use a pal.

Traits: 9 tails, fox transformation, swift reflexes, the yokai spirit marble (kiss kiss!), teeth and claws, and a massive craving for livers

Fusion Ideas: I love... konkon.... foxes and kitsune especially are my favorite so all kinds of "what kind of fucked up fox monster can we make" are going to be my jam. Alastor is PAINFULLY red and his powers tend to be green, he has a Trademark grin that seems to be permanent on his face, he sometimes looks stitched together... lots of really fun weird elements to add "spooky motherfucker" vibes!
Extra: An element I am REALLY excited for is not just the sicc as hell monster action but ALSO... the memshare potential. People getting a peek inside this guy's head. THING IS, because he is such a fucking Mess and tries to be a mystery, I definitely wanna hash out what all he and your character should share, how much or how little, etc. He's got some fine memories of living in New Orleans and being a radio host, some innocuous stuff like lunch dates in Cannibal Town or working at a hotel for Sinners... but he also has a lot of "fond" memories of tearing people apart, living out his power fantasies of killing people that disrespect him, etc. And memories that are very NOT fun, particularly the moment of his first death and the two near-deaths we've witnessed in the canon. Definitely lmk what kind of flavors you wanna work with on those fronts!

Let me present my boy, John Doe! He's a powerful eldritch god who's easy to manipulate, the haver of a very unconvincing human name, and deeply upset by cannibalism (he was once trapped in a looping memory of eating a man raw, and now associates it with terrible shame). He hates a whimsical schemer with a red motif and eerie grin. He's even from the 1930s and spent most of his time listening to the radio! Truly this is setup for some kind of wild CR.
Also he's got black shadow tentacles. The fucked up fox monster just designs itself.

Monster Form: Serph is a Celestial of the angel variety. He has six wings, a third eye, glowing eyes and hair, and feathers all over him. Technically he can fly but it isn't via flapping those wings (he does not know how to fly). He has the power of a Commanding Voice (which compels those who hear it to follow his orders (with player permission)) and healing powers that are largely useless because he gets vertigo from using them.
But through the power of bonus rewards, Serph also has two additional forms that have basically no additional powers but I'm listing here for aesthetic:
1) a tentacled aquatic form (cw: for ass)
2) a storm form that's just a 6 tailed fox
Not sure if this will be relevant but he also has one additional form, which is demonic transformation from home: Varuna. In addition fo having wicked sharp blades in his arms, he has ice magic powers too.
Traits: he currently has 6 feathered wings, one extra eye on his forehead, glowing hair and eyes, feathers growing along body, cmmanding voice: can issue an order that someone must follow (needs player permission), cleansing and magic, hatred of demons, high temperature tolerance, dream-weaver (can link dreams with friends to share memories/experiences/nightmares), aquatic form, storm form.
Fusion Ideas: Obviously if you want a million wings or feathers in a fusion, Serph is your guy. Or you just want Extras in general (more tails? more tentacles? awful).
Serph comes from a world that had many features that are remarkably similar to Revan, so you can potentially see a world where people were marked and turned into monsters, where the sun turned black and humans are turned into statues.
But jsyk Serph also contains a demon called Varuna, who is less a sentient being and more like condensed cannibalistic horror hunger that can't be turned off. So sharing a head/body with Serph means also having to contend with this third party constantly demanding that they devour monsters (including their fellows). If you only know him as this kind of chill guy, well, enjoy knowing that during all his conversations with you there's a part of him that was demanding he eat you :')

Monster Form: Merfolk, but a weird one! A floating specter in a yellow cloak; the tatters of his robe shift and blur into tentacles.
Traits: Full list here! Most notably: tentacles, shifting incomprehensible form, strength and durability, levitation, water-breathing, and a compulsion to drown other creatures.
Fusion Ideas: Hey, wanna mind-meld with a Great Old One? It'll go badly!
John is a fragment of an evil god, so your initial experience might be a bad trip. Memories of dark stars, eldritch geometry, a cathedral built entirely of human bones. The sense-memory of eating a man raw. He's half of a Call of Cthulhu boss, so, uh. Make a Sanity check.
But he's actually used to sharing a body with a human
hostpartner. As he settles, you'll get memories of a little 1930s New England town, a pristine forest, a beautiful sunrise on a lake. A man playing piano, overlaid with John's fondness and wonder. He'll be fascinated by your own memories, hungry for any scrap of beauty.He's been without his codependent bodyshare boyfriend a long time. If this fusion works out, expect instant loyalty.

The WWI flashbacks would fascinate him more than horrify him, because John has heard all about the Great War. His host Arthur was barely too young to fight in it. Arthur also spoke fondly of hiking and camping as a boy back in England, so John would be enchanted by any mundane stories Edward cares to offer.
And of course there can be so many spider legs and tentacles.

Monster Form: Drider, which comes in the spider-centaur variety. I've also applied for Edward to get an ice wolf, but let's be real, the spider is his main thing.
Traits: Climbing on walls, multiple limbs (four arms and three and a half legs when he's in full spider form), vibration sense which now features colours and is how he gets around, webs webs webs, sudden bursts of speed, ice spitting, and a shriek powerful enough to drive monsters backwards, but he doesn't like using that power, please don't force him to use that power
make him do it.Fusion Ideas: Here's the deal: Edward is a bit of a glass cannon. He's great at laying traps, ambushing, and doing recon, but he can only take one or two good wallops in a battle before he's done. Spider legs are fragile and he's already lost half of one of them and would prefer to keep the rest in place. :(
That said, I'd love to pair him up with a heavy hitter, someone who is more defensive and can some damage, because I think combining his powers with someone tougher would make a really cool monster. I'm also interested in making the weirdest, most off-putting things imaginable, so let's make something truly gross and horrific together. The more (or less!) limbs, the better.
Extra: Edward will be really resistant to mem-sharing, because he doesn't want to blast anyone with WWI stuff and is afraid that would bubble to the surface. Conversely, he's very nice and non-judgmental about other people's memories, should anyone want to share with him.
He's also blind, and gets around using his spidey sense (vibrations). If anyone would like to be suddenly blinded and forced to use those, I'd be very down. It would also be fun to give him eyesight back in a fusion. Sorry not sorry he won't help for that battle, too busy looking at stuff, your character can do all the piloting.

Monster Form: Levi's a black dog (infernal/cerebrus). He looks just a normal, if large, black dog with glowing red eyes. But he does have a hybrid form that's more obviously monstery.
Traits: trait info is here. Everything is active until i buy more for him lol
Fusion Ideas: Doggie-ness or the bone-plates are kinda showy, he's for fire breath and baleful howl as ranged attacks.
Not gonna lie on the memories, he is very full of content warnings but he tries not to think of any of that so he can just not pass things on that you'd rather not have your characters deal with. Since fusions are for battle he'll probably flip straight into soldier-mode and provide an almost unnatural calm and good tactical mind.

Fusion Ideas:
The wings or the extra heads would probably be the most identifying in terms of monsters, but having the extra speed for reflexes and the sharper senses would definitely benefit any beasty build. And Donnie has had a form combining both his monsters already if that helps for ideas. Not sure if actual character stuff would carry over but it might be funny. Here, have a soft shell on top of things!

Memory-wise, you'd get a lot of wholesome stuff! Family!! Living in the sewers! Suddenly learning your father's family line is supposed to keep an evil Armor in check! Saving the world from aliens and nearly losing your brother in the process! And a bit of insecurities in between but pshaw...

Fusion Ideas: The most obvious fusion traits are "Corpse" and "Head falls off at night," which can probably apply to anything that still has a distinct head.
As for memories, hoo boy, where to start. She's got so many to choose from (Memories of her suffering, memories of other people suffering at her hands, memories of her trying to atone for that, there's a bunch), and experiencing anybody else's memories would certainly freak her the crispy fried fuck out.

Monster Form: Vampire
Traits: Fangs, Bloodthirst, Mist form. He doesn't burn in sunlight, but his vampiric abilities and his physical abilities are severely weakened when exposed to it. His clothing normally keeps this minimized but... well, fusions.
No, he still can't explode into a cloud of bats. Yet.
Fusion Ideas: I have a question in on including options from his Limit Break/metamorphosis. Powers wise he only has access to actively changing into Galian Beast but the instincts and personalities could play their own terrible part. Also we see a lot of blending of Vincent himself in his shapeshifting so crazy aethetics can go ham.
Totally allowed to use aesthetics from his limit breaks so bwahahahaha... I mean. Ahem.
He's a former Turk (corporate fixer/intelligence gatherer/spy/assassin), turned into science experiment because of a very tragic love hitch and is a veritable monster-in-a-box even before Route 666.
As a player I bring absolutely dumb but hopefully hilarious/well liked ideas on how to expand on the minimal visual horror of a fusion.

Traits: Corpse-like Pallor, Incorporeal Form, Weakness to Sunlight, Urge to Consume Life-Essence, Regeneration from Consuming Life-Essence, Grave Touch, Emaciated/Skeletal Form, Ice Blue Eyes (when emotional), Shadow Magic
You can see what Leo looks like most of the time here!
Fusion Ideas: Leo is pretty outgoing and willing to work with people, so unless your character is particularly cantankerous, they can probably maintain a fusion. Leo mainly brings his undead traits to the table, which mostly help with stealth and getting out of traps. Leo is also pretty tactically minded and good at ordering his more powerhouse brothers around in a fighting scenario, so if your character is more of a hit first, ask questions later type, having Leo in their head might help direct them a bit better.
Unfortunately, Leo does have heaps of trauma you may have to deal with.

Goro Akechi | Chimera/Nekomata

Monster Form: Akechi has two monster forms! There's his chimera form (right is current), and his nekomata form, which has no up to date doodle, but is cougar-based with angelic wings. Full traits list here!
Traits: See the link above.
As far as combat abilities, his chimera form can breathe fire, wield water/ice, and has armor-like feathers in addition to flight and a barbed tail for extra, poky fun. His horns, claws, and beak/teeth also are great for tearing through foes!
His nekomata form wields lightning, holy magic, and can heal. It also possesses flight and illusion-based abilities.
Regardless of form, Akechi has his Persona, Hereward, which gives him a resistance to psychic-based attacks, an immunity to darkness, a single-target dark based move (Eigaon), an explosive AOE attack (Megidolaon), and a single target debuff (Debilitate).
Fusion Ideas: Really, it depends on a) Akechi's monster form at the time, b) their CR and how close they are. Akechi is generally distrusting and guarded, making stable fusions very limited to those he feels truly comfortable with (e.g. Ren, Faith, Serph, and other positive CR).
I should also note that his memories require content warnings for: abuse, neglect, maternal suicide, his mother's history in sex work, murder, manipulation... The boy is not okay.
