Hello all prospective Drifters, and thank you for taking a look at Route 666! Our second TDM is going up on MARCH 15th/16th our Reserves open on MARCH 20th and Applications open on the March 25th through the 31st!

And in the meanwhile, this post is for potential players to introduce themselves and characters they’re thinking of playing! Get excited, get planning with other folks, talk about potential monsters you’re interested in, etc! We are also opening this up for current players to post ATPs to draw in some new castmates and the like!

Canon: Im: Great Priest Imhotep

Character Info:
Once upon a time during Egypt's Old Kingdom period, there lived a high priest of Thoth named Imhotep, who was praised as a genius who could do anything. But all his genius couldn't keep his best friend, the prince Djoser, from becoming a human sacrifice. In fact, Imhotep fucked up rescuing him so badly that he destroyed the Hell's Gate that had been keeping the god Apophis contained, and also released a host of false-god monsters called magai into the world. The gods of the Ennead punished Imhotep by putting him into stasis for approximately three thousand years, but he was later awoken in the modern day to fight back against the magai running rampant, and to finally face down the so-called 'Pharaoh of the Magai', none other than his corrupted friend Djoser.

SO that's a lot of serious background, but the tl;dr is that for being a heretic priest and a skilled spellcaster, Im is also a teenager that's dealt with a lot of tragic, earth-shattering events in a short period of time. He tends to put on a proud, stoic air as befitting a former high priest, but he's very dedicated to the few friends he has and can still get pretty silly every now and then. He'll be coming from near the end of the manga after a lot of plot twists and a huge battle has gone down, and since he's coming in with a canonmate he will be overjoyed that his best friend is inexplicably alive and well again. :')

(oh yeah it's worth noting that Im is uhhh actually the human personality of Thoth, one of many over the years created to continue recording history while the gods had withdrawn from the mortal world. While Im's great abilities stem from this heritage, he's lived his whole life as a human and doesn't have direct access to Thoth's power.)

Monster Ideas: Definitely eying harpy for him, specifically one fashioned on the African sacred ibis. Don't worry he's not getting the big long beak
Vehicle Ideas: In canon Imhotep has a spell that can summon Ra's solar barque to shoot lasers at people. I'm thinking he's going to be getting a smaller version of that ship on wheels, without any laser-shooting abilities. Aside from looking very fancy, it'll have a little hut on top for sleeping or storage ala the Khufu ship.

Game plans: Im is a priest of a moon god, and seeing the moon in the state it's in here is going to mildly freak him out. He's going to assume that Thoth brought him here for a reason even if he doesn't know quite what that is yet. Also, Im is likely to see the monster transformations that are more animal-esque in nature as some sort of blessing. In a weird way he can kind of vibe with the lore we know of the setting so far, just because from his perspective animal traits are a symbol of godly power. Which gods, though, is a good question...

Otherwise Im will be coming in with a healing spell for sure, though his other two abilities will probably be more combat-worthy spells. I'd really just love for him to get to know the other characters and to take the time to sit and process all the crazy shit that's happened to him tbh.

Desired CR: Anything! Positive, negative, throw it at me. I'd love for Imhotep to get to know other people near his age, but he can also get along fine with adults given how super-competent he tends to be.

Zhao is a chef! And the former leader of Yokohama's Chinese mafia, who stepped down after a coup type of situation got out of control. You may think he looks a bit young for that, and you'd be right: he's a nepo-baby, taught in all the skills he'd need to take up his father's mantle from a young age, even though he may have preferred to spend his time playing more dreamcast. Nowadays he's kinda grateful for the relief from duty, 'cause it means he can run his restaurant full time. Just don't leave him a bad review. 😤

PLOTTING!
Monster Ideas: I'm really gunning for Elemental. Fire-themed of course, your friendly neighborhood calcifer. I think he should get to be his own stovetop sometimes, as a treat. If not that, then a Volare with Fenghuang theming, to be combined with Elemental later to create a mythical firebird. Lastly, option C is a Yokai with a leopard look.

Vehicle Ideas: A rundown food truck, with working albeit wonky, unreliable appliances. A real fixer-upper. Throw some roaches in there, too. And I'm thinkin' giant decals of greasy burgers on the exterior.

Game plans: Aside from wondering what in the world is going on, Zhao's MO would be trying to feed people food that doesn't taste like shit. While y'all study runes, he'll study how long to cook gorgon meat for. 👍👍

Other: Big tentative, since I'm looking at multiple games this month ;;;; but I'm very, very drawn to the mystery & liminal horror vibes this place is serving!

the point is, this convoy DESPERATELY needs someone on the level of master chef, especially since they recently discovered beef (in the form of bull monsters) and vegetables from abandoned farmer's fields, so Zhao would literally be a perfect fit lmao

Character Name: Zero
Canon: Megaman X
Character Info: Zero is a thinking and feeling robot that’s one of the two keeping the earth from drowning in a virus. His timeframe is pretty bleak and he’s mostly used to talking to and reacting to other robots.

Fairly straight forward and driven, he doesn’t bother himself with doubt. Doubt can kill. Being one possibly the only robot will be a switch and something to navigate.

On the flip side he was originally made to destroy any creation of his creator’s rival. The virus Wiley made to ruin things (because he is why this canon can’t have good things) actually turned Zero good. The funniest fact from the interviews, I swear.

Deep down that old fight X and slaughter programming is in there. And he recently became aware of it. Not his favorite thing to know.

PLOTTING!
Monster Ideas: Youkai, specifically Kitsune. It felt like a pretty neat one to explore and also I load up some fun reflection in a future canon update.

My other ideas are for Infernal (Demon), and elemental (Genasi). I’ve got fun reasons for each. But Kitsune is the one I really want.

Vehicle Ideas: I’ve been considering either some kind of van like outpost set up or a hover bike for fast movement and being a good scout. I’m still on the fence and figuring that part out.

Game plans: The game plan is to pull him from the start of X6 after he got rebuilt but with no idea who or why. Fresh to some unpleasant knowledge and memories, he’ll struggle with changing and consider he might need put down. While defending the caravan and looking into what happened to this world. Because sure looks like earth did after some certain actions.
Desired CR: I’m game for anything. I haven’t played Zero in years and returning to him feels great.
Other: I considered end of X5 but he is just a torso there. Long story.

I haven't played a ton of the X series outside of X5, but Zero is a really cool character, and I'd definitely love to see him around!

ATP: RWBY

Current cast: Ruby Rose, Yang Xiao Long, Blake Belladonna
Wanted: Weiss Schnee, JNPR, CFVY, Qrow, Raven, Ozpin, Winter, Penny, anybody!

Assorted About: The game's still new so RBY are still settling into traveling with the convoy. Ruby has a red Beetle, Yang has the sportiest sports car ever, and Blake is stuck with a bumbling campervan. As for transformations, Ruby's on her way to looking draconic, Yang recently had a run-in with her full werewolf form, and Blake's about to start biting people to feed on their blood, so everything's going swimmingly and there's no problems at all.

Canonpoint wise, Blake and Yang are both from mid-V6 (just before they reach Argus, and kill Adam), and Ruby's from early V7. But, obviously, any potential applicants can take their characters from whenever in the series.

Anyway, we'd all love more RWBYs, no matter who you want to play!

PERSONA SERIES

Fandom: Persona Series
Current cast: Goro Akechi, Akihiko Sanada
Wanted:

Persona 5 - JOKER, above all else, as I love their dynamic, and I think there's a lot of interesting stuff to explore, since I go with Akechi being alive in the postcredits. Yoshizawa, Sae, and any of the Phantom Thieves would be amazing (with special mention to Haru and Futaba for that drama, Morgana because he can already turn into a car, and Yusuke because he's delightful). The spinoff characters from Tactica and Strikers are also neat! If anyone has a Guernica muse, that would be a fun dynamic to explore.

Persona 3 - Having talked about it with Kaysper, Mitsuru, Shinji, and Ken came up, but any SEES members would be fire, and I personally think Chidori would also be quite fun to bounce Akechi off of.

Other Persona Games - Any of the Investigation Team from P4 would be delightful, with Naoto and Kanji being my big favs, and Adachi or Dojima would be fascinating for different reasons. I'd also adore Sho or Labrys from the Arena games, and I actually quite like the P1 and P2 cast. Jun or Reiji and Akechi CR would be juicy in particular, but tl;dr: we love all the Persona game casts!

Assorted About: Akechi is very fixated on uncovering the truth behind their trip to Nirvana and has strong suspicions that this is an ongoing cycle and that the Husk monsters were like them once. This has given him deep existential dread as he fears a lack of control and loss of humanity, all while acknowledging that the powers that come from their monster forms may be necessary to survive.

He's made some connections but is still pretty guarded and really misses Joker. Finding Calling Cards by the power lines also has him extremely on edge.

While I can't speak for everything Akihiko is up to, he and Akechi know they're Persona users and have shared some information on things like the Dark Hour and have thus established that Personas aren't a new thing. Akechi has yet to fully unpack this, however.

Alas, he did not get to learn Naoto is a Persona user before she left.

ATP: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Current cast: Rise Leonardo
Wanted: LITERALLY ANYONE! Obviously would love to see other Rise characters in the game, including April, Splinter, Draxum, etc, but I would also loooove to play off turtles (and assorted others) from the other series! I would love for Leo to get to know other versions of his family from other universes.
Assorted About: Leo is taken from close to the end of the movie, after he got locked in a prison dimension with a homicidal alien, and his monster is Undead: Ghost, so you can imagine how he's doing mentally right now. But he's still trucking! Having other turtles/assorted friends and villains can only help... or hurt! Who knows! We'll see!

Character Info: You know that meme of "looks like a cinnamon roll/could actually kill you" vs "looks like they could kill you/actually a cinnamon roll"? Vash is the fusion of these extremes into "looks like a cinnamon roll, could easily kill you, is a cinnamon roll anyway". He's a fun contradiction of expert gunslinger who is nonetheless an extreme pacifist, with a mountain of survivor guilt for a spaceship crash his brother caused 150 years ago that stranded all the humans on an nigh-unlivable desert planet, so the whole spooky roadtrip situation will be, uh. Very Uncomfortably Familiar in some ways.

Monster Ideas: Fae!! Plant speech/magic and nature affinity because HELLO, and I'm also delighted by the notion of the oath and formality compulsions, the need to be invited to buildings, and perhaps some butterfly wings for The Aesthetic

Vehicle Ideas: Motorcycle that zooms so fast!!!

Game plans: Vash is pretty used to being on the road and making do with minimal supplies, so he's mostly going to be trying to look out for other people, and also share what little he has because it's how he do lol. He's also going to have an interesting time with the whole concept of people "becoming monsters"... he's been hiding the fact that he's not human while living adjacent to them for 150+ years, so he will have some complicated feelings about that!

Desired CR: - Kindhearted idealists and optimists
- Wolfwood types who are kind at heart but have been burned by life and grown cynical
- Ppl with sibling baggage in general, especially of the traumatic variety
- People who desperately need someone to see the best in them despite all evidence to the contrary
- People who will get heartburn about his constant self-sacrificing

Soooo excited for John and Vash to learn each other's "secret nonhuman" deal and have a long talk about humanity. John will inevitably need a pep talk from someone who can fully comprehend just how dangerous he is and chooses to trust him anyway.

It Kitty, I played Naoto before being obliterated by either covid or a chest infection.

Character Name: Natsuhi Ushiromiya
Canon: Umineko no Naku Koro ni
Character Info: A long ass time ago Natsuhi was the naive and sweet daughter of a priest. Then said priest got into a lot of debt. The guy he was in debt to told him to give up Natsuhi as a bride for his son. And that was the last time she ever saw her birth family....

That's how Natsuhi became a part of the Ushiromiya. They're not the great and I'm still working on my CW page for her. But to sum it up, Natsuhi is outright called a 'borrowed womb' and 'inccubator for the next heir' by other characters, to her face. Her husband has this gem.

So after 30 years of this, she's just a little bit bitter. She's also not had any friends for those 30 years because the Ushiromiya head house is on a remote island. Her social skills are gone, she's constantly on guard and stressed out from being bullied, she's got chronic depression(understandable really).

There is still something noble and she tries to be a good person. But she's kinda forgotten how to people.

Monster Ideas:
Yokai - Main one I'm gunning for tbh, after going through the options I've kinda fallen in love with the idea of Kitsune Natsuhi. There's the whole shrine miko and inari shrine foxes thing. Along with four other reasons that are spoiler related lmao.
Celestial - Not sure if Angel or Unicorn here. Probably a combo of both, but making her a paladin type and giving her wings would be pretty fitting because reasons.
Taurus - Kind of the shitpost option. But goat-taur sounds fun and I think I could do something with hedonistic trait again her being super strict.
Vehicle Ideas: Vehicles you might use? Qualities that catch your eye?
Game plans: Unsure, but I do know that she won't be able to drive.
Maybe a class mom minivan though. For extra chaos when she inevitably runs someone over.
Desired CR:...All? Friends? Friends would be nice, she's so lonely ;-;

Real talk though. Natsuhi is kind of a bitch and not great with people so CR might be a bit of a slow road. She is all bark and no bite though. She does have a soft spot for children though...sort of. She's also going to be wary around male characters closer to her in age because, housewife from a time period where being friends with a guy would get an affair accusation. Basically, she's all prim and proper, and not built for a road trip at all.ac

Word of warning though. I'm not really open to the idea of her 'adopting' child characters. I like the idea of her building CR and growing attached. BUT she is not a great mom, plz do not expect loving doting middle aged lady.

Character Info: A magic robot who wants friends! Penny is kind, sincere, and dealing with a little bit of existential despair over a lot of people only viewing her as a tool. But she is a very enthusiastic and helpful person, and does her best to be relentlessly optimistic. She can also fly, and dissolves into hiccups whenever she tries to lie!

Monster Ideas: Werestoat c: Could also do Merfolk, though.

Vehicle Ideas: Not certain yet, but definitely something roomy. More space for friends...!

Game plans: She's going to genuinely be so excited. She's only been allowed to leave her home town once, and it was under strict supervision. The idea of just freely cruising through the wasteland will be thrilling.

Desired CR: Friends! Other robots! People to teach her about human things!

Character Name: Qrow Branwen
Canon: RWBY
Character Info: 40 something spy, professional monster hunter, and recovering alcoholic! He's a lifelong pessimist who acts aloof and grumpy, but he's actually suffering from anxiety and keeps becoming the acting legal guardian of a bunch of teenagers with super powers. His own super power is being cursed with bad luck. He never outgrew his Hot Topic phase. He can also turn into a crow.

PLOTTING!
Monster Ideas: A harpy (since, you know, bird), demon (giving a man with this much anxiety doom sense is very funny), swarm (Qrow would hate it), or zoanthrope (i just think werewolves are cool)

Vehicle Ideas: A hearse with the 'tough' quality

Game plans: Mostly he's just going to be tremendously relieved to see his castmates again! Things are going pretty terribly for him at my planned canon point, so honestly the road trip through a doomed world will be a relaxing change of pace.

Desired CR: More kids for him to unwillingly adopt. Other adults who are constantly Going Through It. People he can annoy the shit out of while he's in bird form.

Either character would genuinely be so good. Qrow would have both his nieces here, and Penny would have three of her bestest friends, two of which haven't gotten to the canon point of knowing she's alive again (I THINK Ruby does know, though, since she's early v7, I might be wrong on that). I can't decide which I'd like more 😔😭

ATP: Sonic the Hedgehog

Wanted: Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Robotnik, Maria, Agent Stone, Tom, Maddie, Sally, Whisper, Bunnie, Tangle, Julie-Su, Lanolin, Lara-Su, Dr. Starline, Shard, and honestly if I keep going I'm just going to end up listing every character from the complete works of Sonic the Hedgehog! I am also perfectly happy to see movie, game, show, and comic versions of any character!

Assorted About: It's just Shadow right now, who has been very slowly making friends! But honestly, the most important thing you need to know is that he and Blake RWBY have been searching the ruins for music, and thus far they have discovered the Backstreet Boys, Evanescence, Spice Girls, and volume 8 of Now That's What I Call Music.

Character Info: Disaster cutie maid is terrible at actually being a maid but is an excellent combatant instead-- which is good, because her liege is a royal on the run, torn between two families and in search of the truth.

What she lacks in proper etiquette she makes up for in her knife work

Monster Ideas: My main thoughts are Mermaid! Mostly for the inherent comedy of it, a la those 90s Mermaid Films like Splash.

Vehicle Ideas: Something compact but tough-- like a Mini Cooper that she will eventually turn into a fish bowl.

It needs to be tough because-- we've got trouble! she's never seen a car before!

Game plans: TBH this will be a great distraction from the War Trauma that affects her personal life in Hoshido route. IYKYK.

Desired CR: Anything and Everything. Felicia is a helper and a healer, so she's going to want to feel Useful just so she can even try to cope with this madness.

Other: The Maid Mayhem has arrived!

Felicia! Fire Emblem! KNIVES. (She was strictly a knife main on my playthrough.) I love that when presented with the option of a robot horse, mini-cooper fishbowl is still the most viable choice.

Meanwhile Akihiko over here doing his best to live a regimented and ordered lifestyle, but a lot of his clothing and dwelling space has been picking up electric burns and char marks.

ATP: BUFFYVERSE

Fandom: Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel
Current cast: Just Faith here!
Wanted: Angel and Buffy are the two obvious choices, due to the depth of their interactions/dynamics with Faith! But also, I'd love to see anybody, there are no bad choices- Wesley would be great, Giles would be great, Spike would be great, Willow or Xander would be hilariously uncomfortable. Hell, I'd even be cool with castmates Faith didn't really meet in canon. Let's have some fun.
Assorted About: Right now, Faith is having a little bit of a crisis about her worth- she can't shake the feeling that this place is some sort of punishment and that her recent bout of monster transformation was saying something about her as a person. (Castmates might disabuse her of this assumption, since she tends to have a better opinion of some of them)

Character Info: whats up shes cass shes 19 and she never learned how to read. an awkward, arrogant, abrasive girl with a gigantic heart who happens to be the greatest hand-to-hand fighter on the planet and a favored protégé of the batman. all she wants to be when she's older is the batman. constantly, painfully aware of every single way to kill anyone around her. trained from birth as an assassin, before escaping at the age of 8 and living on the run until she was 16 and got trapped in gotham city after a devastating earthquake. literally cannot catch a break. this girl can fit so much guilt and self-loathing in her. currently going the hell through it because the horrors and torment are endless. come at her scrublord shes ripped

Monster Ideas: infernal (demon), undead (vampire), or zoanthrope (bat creature) in descending order of preference. something cute was tempting, girl literally owns a unicorn kigu much later in canon, but i had to go for the aesthetics. its fuckin bats
Vehicle Ideas: this metal as hell lowrider motorcycle. it'd start with the Fast quality. gay thoughts can't catch her if she goes fast enough
Game plans: i'm probably taking her from after issue #73 of her first solo series, so given those current circumstances this whole situation is strictly an improvement. she's in dire need of a recovery arc, the only question is if she'll let herself take the time. this whole thing seems like a great excuse to avoid her problems! pass that monster kebab. also i'm honestly planning to see how long she can go on the tdm without unmasking or admitting to any name other than batgirl at all.
Desired CR: just about anything, if only because she's not likely to open up on her own at this point. friends, sparring partners, anyone who can help keep her supplied with gear and equipment. those batarangs aren't going to replace themselves. she could probably use help figuring out that whole "reading" thing but she's not about to ask.
Other: i have one or two other characters i'm considering, too, but not enough to write up ads for them right now. anyway it's a meme double feature

Hi, it's late and I got rambly because there's no canon wiki. Sorry 'bout that!

Character Name: Apophis (usually goes by "Djoser" or "Pharaoh of the Magai")
Canon: IM: Great Priest Imhotep
Character Info: Once there was a good prince who couldn't be saved from a cruel fate by his best friend and came back as a terribly twisted monster that threatens the world if said best friend doesn't kill him first (again).

Apophis both is and isn't that prince. He is actually the God of Darkness, who has merged his soul with the real prince Djoser's and has been taking the helm of their shared body ever since Imhotep's botched attempt of preventing Djoser from being sacrificed alive. Because of that and other reasons(tm) he shares a lot of characteristics with Djoser including the prince's memories of being Imhotep's best friend, speaking style and human habits.

Other stuff is all his own like his severe trauma of having been repeatedly rejected and repurposed as a god (he started out as a guardian deity against stuff that made Cthulhu look like a cuddly widdle puppy but then others decided that Darkness = EViL), his dislike for lies or his bad habit of being overly casual bros with just anybody he meets. Monster Ideas:
Serpens! I'm not going to do the snake tail build because he likes kicking people where it hurts too much, but one of my goals is to give him both a giant monster and a tiny pocket snake form for easier handling. Having him be weak to temperature would also be fun since he's a failed sun god with fire affinity.
Vehicle Ideas:
I honestly have no idea. Maybe an Ancient Egyptian Chariot with some golem magai horses (like this) that he will have to Ikea back together each time it rains? Honestly, this guy just black hole-teleports or uses public transport when he wants to go anywhere in canon, so I doubt he even knows how to drive.
Game plans:

• Since he'll be coming in from the end of the final fight, he's going to be a) very confused at being in a human body which he'll assume to be Djoser's real body aka. revitalized mummy, and b) scramble to pretend to be Djoser because ffffffffff Imhotep's around and he doesn't want to get locked up in solitary for another eternity again, thank you very much! (Place your bets for how long he'll actually manage to do that here.)
• His feelings on the whole monster thing will be mixed because on one hand, he'll be getting closer to his real looks and he's used to the whole turning people into magai thing. He'll have fun getting first row seeing it happening to others like they made it happen to him! On the other hand oh damn, that's still Djosers body? He thinks??? How is he going to explain that he took it for a drive and crashed it right into Monsterville if the real Djoser ever shows up here!?

Desired CR: Friends, enemies, frenemies and everything in between! Apophis is actually really into making bonds with people, but he's also really scared of it because he's been hit with a mantra of "you're no part of this world! begone!" while also being actively not allowed to do that his whole life so idk if you want to touch that.

Other things I can think off: CR to get into silly shenanigans with while he's pretending to be Djoser, CR to help work through the whole turning into a monster thing with and unwantingly get attached to while dealing with his own feelings about his canon monstrous appearance, CR to push into their personalized corruption arc and have a blast while being at it, CR to be the unintentional sane man in,.... The only character types he'll antagonize by default are parental types (bc of his own 'parents'), other gods and overly lawful heroic folks.

OH BOY I think this CR could be completely insane, I'm so ready. Totally canonblind to your guy, but mine is a fragment of Hastur, a Cthulhu-tier eldritch god from realms beyond reality etc. An adventuring party fucked up his summoning ritual, so he lost his memory and became bound to a human host. By the time he remembered he's a god intent on cracking the world like an egg, his host won him over with ~the power of friendship~, so now "John Doe" is all in on living as a mortal. Would you like a lecture about how humans are great actually? No?

Apophis will probably remind him of his own sadistic chaos villain, so the negative CR will be mutual. If John recognizes the fumbling attempts to care for humans, he'll become grudgingly fond despite himself.

Monster Ideas: Raiju. He's already a walking static electricity hazard so I want go all in on that. Also eying Werewolf. No idea on the third yet. Angel? Maybe. He's certainly got the moral tendency for it.

Vehicle Ideas: Definitely the Mako. A nuclear warhead couldn't take this thing out. Let's do a barrel roll falling off cliffs.

Game plans: Kaidan resolved the whole, "I was scared of using my powers for most of my life," issue a bit too quickly for my liking in ME1, so I really want to explore how he's going to handle just losing it and, worse, enjoying it. Lots of potential for internal strife there, he prides himself in being so self-controlled.

Desired CR: Game for anything honestly. Above all Kaidan craves to be helpful, his class in-game is a jack-of-all-trades and he's personable, I don't foresee issues building CR with anyone, really. Unless they're actively genocidal or something, then he's absolutely going to die on that moral hill, Neutral Good to the death.

Game plans: Syalis would immediately try to find out how she could have a luxurious night's sleep in a monster post-apocalypse. Dr. Robotnik might be weirdly helpful at first? Game plans: He will be freaking out about being spirited off somewhere against his will, but being a person who loves adventure and has never wanted to stay trapped in one place for very long, I think he'd eventually come to enjoy it a lot. Especially if he can help others and hit on any person who remotely interests him.

She'd very quickly throw her lot in with the caravan though and work to do her share.

Character Info:

Cal has no memories of the many many many people he's killed. As far as he knows he’s always been Winslow, a veterinarian who has murdered zero people. He’s recently opened his own practice in the city (it's going to be a magical place) and things are going great for him. Adoptions are every Tuesday. Everything is fine. Nothing is amiss.

The truth is a lot more complicated than that, obviously. Winslow is in fact a bandaid stretched over the tattered remains of Cal's psyche, manufactured by SHIELD in attempt to offer him a humanitarian alternative to life in prison at the request of his daughter. Rehabilitation was always a tricky prospect for Cal. He has a good heart under all the murder but he also has a trauma induced hair trigger temper that makes him generally unsafe to be around. The goal of creating Winslow was to let the best of Cal's personality take the lead and plaster over all the trauma and neurological damage that made him so volatile.

The problem is this memory erasure/implanting process has a history of failure.

It might be helpful to think of Cal as a gothic horror character that got misplaced in a world of superheroes. He’s the MCU's take on Mr. Hyde. A kind hearted doctor turned mad scientist, drinking down strange homebrewed elixirs and going on murderous rampages in the name of revenge for his wife and long lost daughter.

Also he uh, brought his wife back from the dead and it was not a pretty or painless process. Fun fact! Zabo comes from the word for tailor in Hungarian.

Monster Ideas:
Draugr or Cerberus would be such good fits for him. I want him to be undead, to really experience the pain Jiaying felt after he brought her back from the dead. She had to kill a lot of people to sustain her own life and it scarred her deeply. And a prey animal like a deer suits Cal. He was a doe eyed sweetie once upon a time.

On the other hand he is SO dog coded, and essentially was his wife's attack dog for years when they were murder rampaging together. And I love the idea of giving him one calm head and one snarling head that holds all the trauma and rage.

I actually commissioned a design like that years ago too. Though I’m leaning towards Draugr as of writing I gotta show it off!

Vehicle Ideas:
The van his daughter, Daisy lived out of when she was a homeless hacktivist, a 1983 GMC Conversion Van. Complete with little dancing hula figure on the dashboard.

Game plans:
He is going to be so confused. He’s just a normal guy! Why is this happening to him? As the pressure mounts and he’s exposed to more violence and trauma those fake memories will start to show their cracks as his memory is jogged. An extreme identity crisis will ensue. I want these two personas to really have to contend with one another. Can they coexist?

He has extensive knowledge of human and animal doctoring, which I think will be really helpful on the road. He's a very talented surgeon. Also he can cook up methamphetamines and other drugs if given the proper facilities.

Desired CR:
At his best Cal is nurturing, and very dorky. He just oozes Dad Charisma. I think it goes without saying that he’s a natural father/uncle figure type of guy. He even had a whole gaggle of teens under his care at one point. (It might’ve been a cult lowkey tbh.) But I’d also love for him to have friends who are a little more on his level. He was on the run, spree killing for 25 years and he’s missed out on all sorts of relationships. Also I’m not opposed to romance, he’s a cute guy with a big heart and a lot of love to give. But there's a lot of baggage there. He was absolutely dedicated to his wife even after she left him and carries the guilt of resurrecting her, effectively turning her into a monster. There’s a lot of pain there.

As for negative CR? It’s possible, even if he’s trying to behave! Cal despises SHIELD and any kind of surveillance state agency in general. If your character was part of a group that kept tabs on powered people and heaven forbid locked them up he will not like you.

A bit of tidbit here: Dr Takuto Maruki starts off the start of that year as a voluntary counselor at Shujin Academy. He cares for the students and is known to deeply connect with others and sympathise with their problems- which ultimately makes him one of the more popular and well-loved members of the faculty when he does finish his tenure. He is extremely friendly and very easy to reach out to which isn’t a facade in itself as he finds himself wanting to help those in need and lend a helping hand to those who suffer.

He dresses formally and is known to be mostly prim and proper- even with the hint of air of awkwardness around him. He is alert and sharp when it comes to picking up on comments or statements said by his patients that he wouldn’t hesitate to dive into depending on how comfortable they are.

Of course there is a lot underneath the surface! Takuto Maruki is a very broken man who can't overcome his own grief and has made it his life mission to remove all pain and suffering from the world. He has an immense saviour complex or even something of a martyr who is willing to take away all of humanity's free will for the sake of seeing them happy and fulfill everyone's dreams and wishes. As one can see this benevolent wish sounds great in theory and...a little worrying in practise.

Monster Ideas: I am currently VERY much eyeing Angel right now. It fits Maruki to the T and fits his blind idealism! specifically very celestial but I also want this man to show up to others like "Do not be afraid :D" I am also still very open to hear from others on what they might think of a good intentioned but manipulative good doctor as a monster ! If not that then Wraith or…fairy. Something good willed but twisted ugwim
Vehicle Ideas: A taxi! I know! Its a little ridiculous haha but Maruki (SPOILERS?) drives a taxi at the end so maybe it will be a nice little irony of him just being blatantly confused?? However the inside of his taxi is very hospitable and if possible, just be one of the most comfortable taxis ever with a lot of leg room. The seats can give you a massage and the taxi has a whole fridge for snacks and drinks! All free of charge
Game plans: Dr Takuto Maruki is a very inquistive fellow by nature- even if he might be a little terrified of the monsters before quickly adjusting to it and coming up with countermeasures using Azathoth. Maruki will meddle into matters and offer to help in areas where people are struggling. Safe to say if we get any celestial powers here- Maruki will be manipulative with them.
Desired CR: Treat him with kindness and acceptance and he will be your confidant He is also a BIG nerd and passionate in academic. Specifically in pyschology. Any and all scientists are welcome. If you want to push at his moral dilemmas…he might entertain those as well. He is also incredibly attuned to people's body language, someone’s tone and moods and is generally good at reading people and helping to be at ease and get them to open up. obviously if your character wouldn't open up then that’s a different point.

Other: CW-> Okay despite all the desired cr stuff as mentioned in the *personality* section all of his kind and empathetic actions have twisted motives. He really does believe he’s doing all this for the right cause and is deluded enough to fully believe himself to the point that even if you do openly challenge his points- he will be skeptical of you. He will NOT fully open up with you on any important matters regarding himself. A character can push him around a little bit but he will hold a grudge out of spite. He’s a certified liar and manipulator who sorts after any information which can further his goal so do proceed with caution. He’s also mentally not right in the head so there’s that.

OH BOY I am totally canonblind to Persona, but this could be interesting! My boy goes by "John Doe," but he's actually a fragment of the Great Old One Hastur possessing a human body. I know Persona has its own Hastur, and because John is one piece of an entity that spans many universes, Persona characters are 100% welcome to make the connection! Likewise, if you're cool with it, John will recognize the name "Azathoth" and be appropriately scared shitless.
